Story One: The Flower

Adam's lungs had been sickly as a child. Paper thin and fluttering fragile like wet butterfly wings -- erratic and sluggish. His small chest caved (exhale), swelled (inhale). His father had died of the same sickness. He was his mother's world. Her universe, all she had, and she hardly left his side. She brought red roses in from the garden and arranged them by the window. Plucked petals to rub on Adam's pale cheeks to brighten them, and steeped hot rose water for him to drink. Her hair, her skin, the press of her mouth --  roses, roses, roses, roses.

Story Two: The Curse

The curse took the form of his mother's flower. This, of all things, should have hinted that sick in the heart as he was -- Adam was not irredeemable.

Note:

I always loved the story of 'Beauty and the Beast' growing up. So I made some drabbles about Adam's affiliation with roses in his origin story, and how it reflected the good still in him despite his outward appearance and the twisting of his heart.
